we don't need rest!!
since I have been recently posting intentional garbage, I thought I'd a least try and do a little better. Nothing really technical, musically inspiring (I'd suppose), but just a rock and roll ditty.....not to mention, an unfinished kinda ending too...

I ventured into 'taboo land'......tracked, mixed, etc...completely with MDR7506 headphones. ...... we'll see, I guess....

This is not a finished 'anything'...but an idea that I happened to have recorded tonight, and thought I'd venture to get some responses, since my ears are now completely fried, and I have no other excuses left to use:rolleyes:

I'd be most interested in hearing comments on tone, instrument balances, and anything else that might come to mind....

a Ruffie

oh what the H....omit the first post, except for the link...

This is my first song recorded on the computer, and I'm only 14 years old. If people like it ...to some degree, my dad says he'll buy me my own computer, so I won't tie up mom's computer all the time. I can only record when my little brother is away at basketball, cause he bothers me all the time.

(I'm tooo ashamed to admit my age and how many other pieces of tripe I've recorded before this)

The guitar sounds like it's in a plastic box or something.

Tonewise everything else sounds fine.

sell your computer and buy me a ticket over and I'll kick your brother's ass for you.

JAKE

Yeah, I'd say that ending is a bit unfinished. :D
But the rest is cool. The bass is good....I like the keyboard parts.....I find the lead to be a little soft, turn it up in the mix a small amount. This could be the basis of a cool song. It definitely needs more but it's a beginning.

Cool man...you playin keys and geetars? Nice tone on the guitars and good soloin too-during the second section the synths might take a little space from the guitar-I wanted to hear that cool high lick you were playin a bit better...Other than that-you've got a perfect tv cop show theme song here. But not just ordinary cops-these guys are rafting down class 4 rapids on a pringles can, these guys are flyin over erupting volcanoes-French cafes for lunch and Bangkok whore houses for an after dinner snack. You know-maserati's-tuxedoes-and the babes! And thats just the commercial for the pilot!

Sorry man-working the overnight....Actually the first 3 times I listened to this I was truly scared-something was truly wrong-could the defender of the faith and the man with the golden ears be letting me down???Of course not! someone at work here always leaves the "3d wide balance" on the windows mixer on and cranked...why? I do not know but with one clik of the mouse my faith was restored. I uhh never doubted you for a minute.

Is that a miced amp or some kinda pod thingy?

Van Halen 1984!;)

Thats a pretty good idea for a tune MIXMKR......as always the recording is as clean as a whistle.

Those drums sound solid man.I like the panned out rhythm guitars with the delay on them..I use to use a preset called "dream guitar" on one of the old rackmount effects units I had(I believe it was one of the ART units from the 80's)....killer delay and reverb combo that goes on forever.....are you a Fan of Edward Van Halen?

Since you're still in school you could always sell crack to your boyz to make enough money to buy your own computer  :D

Great start, I think this could be a solid base for a good rock song. Instrument balance sounded fine to me, everything was clear and matched well IMO. good job so far, be sure to post what it becomes for us

I agree with the Lieutenant guy. I mean, it's audible, which is more than I ever achieve, and it's so damned perfect and steady that I'm thinking it's 5 keys on a keyboard of some sort, right? If that's you playing an actual bass, could you please track about 10 quick hillbilly tunes for me...Please? Pretty Please?

I thought the lead tone was fine, but I don't have any kickass monitors or anything.

Short Clip On, my man!
:D
Chris

Balance - a little bit lopsided - synth one side - guitar the other, which means they are in competition, they don't have their "own" space".
Guitar piece has some nice timing and cool playing, but very old fashioned in tone and style, as is the synth sound.

I'd keep the bass and drum tracks, and start with laying some sharp, stacato rythm guitar tracks down, building to the end, and then do another lead over it.

Summary, good musicianship, old fashioned in sound and style

Good call on 1984. Hey, I still have one of those older ART units. Too bad stuff like that never gets considered vintage.

Nice playing mxmkr. Very reminescent of my mullet days in the mid eighties up to about...errrr... now? doh! Seriously though, nice guitar lines. Maybe more lead guitar out front? The synth seemed so "present" or immediate, whereas the right guitar seemed a little further away and the the lead guitar seemed a little behind the drum kit. I was listening on headphones, too, so maybe that's why I'm hearing that way.

I suppose it has a dated sound (ala Van Halen/Satriani) but it still sounds a lot better to me thatn some of the asswipe stuff that makes it to the airwaves nowadays. So far so good. Where you going with this?
By the way, if you want some REALLY dated sounds, I still have one of the ART SGX-2000's and a Sholtz X-100 racked up.

jake-owa... yeah..the gtr IS in a plastic box...called the J-station. I know what Hawaii/main land tickets cost....so I'll pass...but thanks [for the listen too].

lt robt... soft lead eh? It was making my ears ring in the headphones.. OH!...that's the volume knob!!...and I ran out of "simple" ideas to keep the tune going..

stratomaster... another "low lead" comment. hhhmm. Yeah..I'm stuck in the Miami Vice mode it seems...with the EVH thrown in too. Wish I could play like Eddie.

kramer.. yeah..Eddie rocks... always has, always will. I mean....who plays kick ass rock gtr anymore and still smiles? It's all about this frowning/attitude thing it seems nowadays. Eddie always smiled. EVH gets knocked by so many people currently, but I don't personally think there is/was a better rock player. What a tone too.

barometer..naw..the crack thing won't "go" with the parents...ya know what I mean?

chrisharris. nice first name, btw...my mdr7506 are currently my "kick ass" monitors over my jbl, urie and auratones. the ns10's are loooooong gone. I'm getting hooked on these 'crutches'

sjoko... I'll just join the voxvender camp and admit to liking the 'old sound and style', I guess. It's about all I know anyway. These riffs happen in about 10 minutes, and I can't write anything anymore meaningful nowadays too... Too lazy, I guess. It's get a quickie rhythm track and have fun with the 'simple' leads.

jr#97..never had a mullet...and never really got into southern rock that much either...unless calif. is a southern state;) 1984....you guys are thinking "Panama/Jump"....eh? with that cheezy synth sawtooth synth patch..."cept eddies sounded better.

thanks all for the listen. They all must have been after midnight...so you guys are staying up waaaay tooo late. Mom and Dad make me go to bed at 10:30.:D

thanks Trackrodent... that makes me feel 'somewhat' better. Going??...it's probably finished. I don't think it deserves more time. Ya know...one of those jams, and "might as well record it," thingies. I don't know how people change their sound/style to keep current. I don't hear it in other players.. just the 'new' bands that keep coming out. ..that's what seems to change to me. I mean..list all the great guitar players, and they all sound like they did when they first hit the scene...don't they?

you really do get a good sound when you want to.

very clean recording and mix, mix... maybe bring the lead up a hair..

Yeah it has that VH 1984 sound, but that doesnt bother me.. I am developing a new found appreciation for earlier synth sounds.. Nice solo.. You should do more of that type of stuff.. (@49) I like this! It's been playing in a loop for a while now..

you could build this into a full length tune easily..

WTF???........I didn't say a GODDAMNED word to you...........

Leave my name out of your silly rants.....Due to past run ins with your attitude, I try to pretend you don't exist... why not do the same for me. I mean I don't bother you. I don't post about you.. I don't reply to your threads.. And I guarantee you that your opinion on my music means less than fucking dirt.

Hows about the same treatment for me.

Im tired of your bitter arrogant shit. Leave me outta it..........

how much do you want for the sgx 2000? i've got the x-15 ultrafoot that mates up to it perfectly.....

I guess I shouldn't use this thread as a flea market...

Fortunately for me, and unfortunately for you mix,....... I do know Vox's music pretty well, and I think there is something amiss with your comparison:rolleyes:

very nice.....would be worth persuing, IMO.....

the 80's were good to me so im staying there......

id definitely rethink that bass line...gets annoying....during the "verses", id play only on the kick and snare......

that one littlen rhythm riff during the "verses" reminds me of Genesis' "Land of Confusion"....tres cool....

if you need lyrics, ill hook ya up....

and your problem is ???? Joe...try getting a grip eh? I thought you liked Def Leperd (sp? ) and the 80's production styles that went with it. I do to... But for some bizzare reason, it appears that you are trying to read between the lines somewhere and think that I am making uncomplimentory comments your way. If you think so..that's become your problem. But I'd say it is all manufactured. But, you're the one that has to live with it...so you can have it your way. I thought in my post I was commenting about myself and my music.

And sjoko.. if you've heard more of Joe's stuff, than is on the internet, then I suppose you DO know his music better than me. How fortunate you really are then, and how unfortunate for me.

If you guys wanna start the flame fest...then go ahead. I can call you guys "pricks" with the best of them. Preferably...that would not be my first choice.

and Joe...if you've read this far....how come?? :p

yeah...the 80's where very good to me too. I understand about the bass line... 1/8th notes can tend to get pretty repetitive.
About the lyrics, I'd be very interested. Maybe in the "safety" of my secluded studio, I could try them out.
