It is the song called, "I'll Have To Say I Love You In a Song", you know, that one by Jim Croce. I was just fooling around the other morning to see what I could do with multitracking on this one. Don't be too critical, because I will do a polished version some other day. Till then, this is what I have:

I Love You In a Song

That's a great tune to record. For a scratch track, the guitar sounds great, as does the lead vox. The background vocals could probably be pushed back a bit. Other than that, very nice!

Sounds good. Get rid of some of the dead air in the beginning. Guitar work is solid. Vocals are creepy, but that's just the Simon in me...

If you're like me, re-inventing some of these classic songs are very satisfying. Keep doing what makes you happy!

Good one Rick - I would agree - lower the backing tracks, compress them, and try panning them left and right leaving the lead in the center. The backing vocals seems to be overpowering the lead vocal, and both need their own space. Just a few minor mixing adjustments and it should be really good....

I updated the recording to accomodate some of your suggestions in the above link to the song. Thanks for the input!

Wow - listening on headphones and it sounds really good!

The vocals are sitting really nicely in the mix now. The back ups are clean and clear and they sit beside and behind the lead vocals. The stereo and front/back image is really nice.

The guitars are nicely separated too during the lead break.

Really like the tones and recording quality on the guitars and voices.

Playing and singing very well done (as always).

Great job!!!

Another Mix

I think this one sounds a bit better. I split up the background vocals hard L/R. I like the way the background vocals sound split up. Here is the latest:

Next Mix

Both remixes are very good and have their own flavor. It's tough to pick a favorite from the two. I'm going to go with the first one - the less "panned" one - just my personal preference......

Nice work. I think the guitar sounds just a little boomy, but it could be my inexpensive headphones. Very excellent playing and singing. Wow. I'm blown away by how consistent in velocity and timing your fingerstyle is.
