Ok I am moving on from the Logic Audio Question and moving back towards more muteral territory... sound cards. Everyone has one, or wants one. I want one. Which one is the best?
Ok now I will refine that general question. I have for the past 9 months been saving money to buy some real recording equipment. I am completely alone over here so I need to function as a one man band. I have already bought Logic Audio Platinum 4.7.1 for the PC as well as a Roland JV 1010 Sound module that I control with the MK-149 Keybrd through a Midisport 2x2 USB interface. Now I need a killer sound card that I will not out grow in 2 hours. But remember I am completely alone, so I don't need enough Ins and Outs to record a drum kit or orchestra. I have had my heart set on the Delta-66 24/96 card with the Omni I/O Audio Interface/Pre-amp/Mixer/All-in-one Package because it seems to be the easiest answer. And I am not a recording wiz, so it HAS to be easy. I don't really want to buy a digital mixer, so the Omni I/O seems to be the answer to my prayers. I will evenbtually save enough to get an Audio Tech 4033 Large Diaphram Cond Mic. vor the vocals, so I will need the phantom power, and a really high bit resolution (24-bit) I could give a shit about 96 Khz though, but I like the option, even though I will probably never use it.
Also, I have never experienced the massive problems that are famous for occuring with a PC as apposed to the Apple. And I do not want to. I haven't even looked at the audio recording capabiulities yet of LAP. I just now am getting the hang of the MIDI environment etc.. But I want to know.... my computer only has 128 MB RAM and no dedicated hard drive. I plan to one day get 128 Megs more RAM and a 7200rpm hard drive. But I need to ask which should take priority? A good sound card? Or steping up the PC specs? Since I am so alone and will be recording only 2 or 3 guitar tracks and maybe 2 vocal tracks per songs, do I need to step up the computer so much? 5 Tracks of audio and about 7-9 MIDI tracks. Can a 128 MB RAM PC handle that ok without getting the big guns yet?
Also, are there any other all-in-one sound cards that will prevent me from needing a mixer? All I need is phantom power, pre-amps, effects returns etc... the same stuff as the Omni. Basically DO YOU GUYS THINK THAT THE OMNI IS A GOOD DECISSION???
There, I got it all out,
Mike
