My PC can read both Wav and Aiff files. Can Macs read Wav files?

The standard application for playing Wave files on a Macintosh is SoundApp (available at U.Va. on the accpublic server: login as "guest" and navigate to MacPublic/Utilities/Sound).

With the right player or codec... you should be able to play any sound file on any computer.

For PC... you could uses apple quicktime to read just about any apple media format.

Im sorry maybe i wasnt that clear with myself,

I am producing a synth sample cd. I have half of the cd filled with Wave files and am thinking about converting them to Aiff format, so that both PC and Mac people would be happy.

I have a PC and have no clue about Macs. My question was that is it a waste of time to do the conversion Wav to Aiff, if Macs can read Wav files anyway?

So thats all i meant by Can Macs read Wav files.

Thanks

john

according to the earlier replies..... yes, macs can read .wav

Would I just be wasting my time converting the wav files to Aiff format, or is there good in doing so?

yes, Macs can natively read .wav files. Quicktime will open the file automatically.

Note that if you are burning a CD on a PC, you'll have to make it an ISO-9660 (standard plain-vanilla data CD) for a Mac to read it. The regular Windowz CD format is called Joliet and cannot be read directly on a Mac.

An ISO-9660 Cd is only valid with 8.3 (filename.xxx) filenames, not long file names, so name your files accordingly.
