Hi everyone :)

First of all I'm not a singer, nor do I want to be one :)

Rather - I was wandering if you know any techniques/exercises to develop deeper, fuller voice.

1) As far as I (currently) understand it the depth of the voice is set and there can be little done to deepen it. Is this true?

2) I can roughly distinguish between speaking from the throat and from chest. I can speak for a few minutes with "deeper voice" by inhaling deep and feeling the vibration of my voice in the chest. There are two problems however - first - I can only sustain this for a few minutes then, for for whatever reason it's gone. Second problem - if I keep inhaling deep "into my stomach" and try to expand my chest - I start hyperventilating since my body gets more oxygen than it needs.

Any advice or exercises?

1) There is variation in the depth of someone's voice, depending on the position of the larynx, but that is limited. Also, you cannot/should not sustain a severely lowered larynx for too long. It can create drama, but can only be used in certain spots for a short time.

2) It sounds like you are talking of two different things here: speaking with constriction and without, and breathing, but the two are somewhat related. If you have constriction then in a way you can breath however you like - it won't matter. But with constriction it's not a good sound and feels awful and it will get stronger until your voice starts to shut down. It is possible to speak without constriction and with good breathing without hyperventilating, so my guess is that you are breathing incorrectly. But it's really hard to offer advice on how to fix it without hearing and seeing what your'e doing.

get a good teacher.

so far it looks like you're doing a whole lot of wrong things.
