A possibly dumb fruity loops question

I just got a cd off the internet filled with great instrument samples in .wav format. Anywho, when I use them on Fruity loops, i usually make my rhythms using the piano roll feature. My problem is that the samples of the instruments off the cd hold the note out for like 5 seconds. Now, when you use the samples FL gives you, you are able to shorten the length of the note or make it longer. Is there anyway I could get my .wav samples to behave the same way in the piano roll? Do i have to convert them to a different format? I dunno. Thanks for you help.

When you load a sample into FL and click on the name of the sample in the vertical list it brings up a box with 'channel settings - (sample name)'.

Under the 'Ins' tab you will find several graphic depictions of the envelopes for that sample. The one you want is 'Vol' for volume. Either click and drag the points on the curve or move the wheels below the display to shorten the sound to taste.
