Hi there guys and girls,

I don't post much - I read more than post, however, I just had a query if anyone had any ideas about:

I've home recorded since 1993, I want to produce a cd collection of the material which includes 4 boxsets and 32 albums.

As I'm on a budget, it appears after looking on google etc the only companies who will produce a boxset for 50 units each the only companies seem to charge a minimum order (I don't need the minimum of 500 units as it's too expensive and I don't need that many).

If anyone has any ideas for this I'd be interested to hear thoughts: I do the design myself, having studied graphic design and I'm currently re-mastering the work, so just need the packaging. I was thinking of something along the lines of Dylan's Tell Tale Signs as a template appearance.

Thanks everyone,

Dan

Consider doing the 'boxing' yourself? Are CD-Rs ok? Kunaki is your cheapest option for single CD-Rs.

Hi there,

Thanks for that - you know I haven't considered that. I have artwork skills, I'll look into it.

I've asked a company if they'll do 500 for 5 different designs, I don't know if that will work, otherwise it really would be thousands lol, I can't justify that ;)

I'll look into it - haven't heard of Kunaki - I was looking at demomaster for the single albums - yeah, CDRs are fine with me.

How many CDs in the box set? Just do 4 (or however many) single CDs, then box them together. The truth is most people don't know what to do with a big-format box set (like the ones that are album size or half-album size, with photo books in them) and store the CDs separately from the box if they are in separate jewel boxes.

Hi there mjbphotos,

There's 4 boxsets: 3cds, 8cds, 10cds & 5cds - I wrote a LOT of stuff lol.

Thanks for the input, I'm planning on deluxe boxsets, not just cds in a box, hence a packaging company. I want to do the material justice, it's 20 years of stuff so I'd like to take the effort and money on it.

Although I'm going to market the products and sell them to fans, I'm also doing it for myself, to have a nice collection to show for the work, so not really too worried about commercial appeal.

Thanks mjbphotos,

Dan

I'm a local artist in my area, have people who follow me who will want a copy - also, I'll want to stock up a few copies for the coming years, aswell as friends and family who will want a copy.
