Ok... so ive been in to recording for a year or so, bought a FIREPOD, and was wondering if this is mixed well. Im not sure if there is a difference in mixing and mastering. If there is, then what is it?

www.myspace.com/ilikebotany << this is my band and you can find the recordings here.

Hey dude,

I dig the music, reminds me of Hum or Braid. The recording is definately lacking in many aspects. No disrespect intended. You're new to the sport though so the recordings can only get better. I would recommend just reading this website and reading other articles on recording and mixing. Bruce aka Blue Bear Sound has some very informative articles on his website that I would definately recommend checking out. Good luck, keep rockin' !

Oh, mastering is done after mixing. You'll usually want someone else to handle the mastering to bring expertise and a fresh set of ears to a project. When mixing you're dealing with the individual tracks and while mastering you're dealing with the song, and songs, as a whole or I guess some prefer to work with stems (a drum stem, a guitar stem, back vox etc.. ) The mastering process gets the songs into a mastered state and will get you a completed redbook cd with which to take to a duplication house.
