I'm fairly new to home recording. I recorded this a few weeks ago with my FP10, due to equipment limitations, It was tracked with all dynamic mics. I also am mixing through computer speakers that are probably terrible. The tune is for a "Melodic Hardcore" band. Tell me what this mix needs.

I recently retracked the bass and added some bass drops.

Disregard the strange inverse snare thing at the beginning, I forgot to take that out.

It's the one that says "Newer Version"

If that link doesn't work I'll upload it to megaupload.

That works. Thanks.

melodic hardcore - ok, i am by no means an authority (on this or anything else for that matter), but here goes...

I think the performance is good. I like the slowdown and the lower, heavy guitar that comes in around 1:30. Also really like the intro. The tracking sounds like it was done pretty well...But I think the mix could be better.

The guitars generally sound like they need to be contained a little bit. They could be beefier and less fizzy. I might suggest taking what i imagine as the rhythm guitar on my right and tame the distortion a bit, double track it and pan each hard left and right. This could give it a heavier sound. Then I'd take the other more lead-like guitar and pan it more or less in the center - a common suggestion, but one i personally think applies here.

As it is, the two guitars seem to blend together more than intended despite being panned apart. Also, I'd prefer to hear the bass more.

Not saying I could do any of this myself, but just what i'm hearing as a listener. Good job man.

New Version

just got done changing some of the mix.

I duplicated the rhythm and panned it hard Left, and centered the lead a little. I also turned up the bass.

Anyone have any ideas of how to give the mix more energy or more intense?

I was looking forward to hearing the new version, but I'm not sure my advice helped...sorry. The whole thing seems generally louder now to the point of distorting maybe? Hopefully someone else will weigh in here as I don't seem to be much help. I still think this has potential...
