I just put together my first song called The Last Honest Man using Cakewalk's Sonar - I am hoping to get some suggestions/recording tips from the experienced users on this forum. I would like to get some information on how to tighten things up and blend the various tracks more effectively before going back in to re-record a few parts and to polish things up. I am very green when it comes to this stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The acoustic guitar track is great as is, the tone is great. The vocal performance is also good but it seems to have a little too much reverb on it, it sounds futher away than it should (IMHO), I'd like to hear it more upfront in the mix.

I can't tell what's going with the percussion in the background, maybe it's just strumming noise I'm hearing, there's some sort of thunk-thunk happening, maybe it's just the way you play guitar, in any event, it seems a little overly prominent.

Great song!

I agree. The vocals need to come up in the mix, as they sound a bit too far away. Also, less reverb on the vocals as well. It sounds like he's in a tunnel. The Guitar track is good though.

Love the guitar sound!

The percussion needs to come way down. Personally, I'd lose it completely. It distracts.

Less reverb on the vocals, they're good enough to be way out front.

Thanks for the feedback.... I think I'm still trying to get used to hearing my own voice on tape - hence the extra reverb! I'm not sure what to do about the percusion because that's just my hand slapping the strings on the acoustic guitar - kind of a fingerpicked slapping sort of thing. If anybody has any ideas how to diminish the slapping without losing the rhythm guitar sound I would appreciate it. Thanks again.......

Agreed on the vocal, guitar does sounds good though, will be nice to hear a remix, the tune is great.

Hey there........

I haven't read the other posts cause I didn't want to be too influenced.
I don't like the vocal treatment.
Which is not a knock of the singing, just the effects and whatever else was used on it. Personally I think there is too much screwing with vocals lately.IMO:D

The acoustic sounds pretty good.
What is the percusion I am hearing. Almost sounds like someone hitting an empty suitcase???

The song has merit I think, IMO I would redo the vocal though.
Nice to meet you BTW.
