Hi everybody..

I'm a super New Newbie :)

Anyway..here's my story.
Recently got a Johnson J-Station (guitar pre amp). In 2 bands, one metal, the other ...umm... its w/ a girl :) . Anyway, I've made some quick lil wav clips etc.

But now w/ the Jstation, I plan on doing A LOT more.

Anyone care to help me?

Here's my equipment list:
Computer:
AMD Athlon XP 1600+
256MB DDR RAM
14GB HD :(
generic built on sound card
WinXP
GuitarTracks
Sonar
SoundForge

music:
Crate GFX212 120 watt into 2 12" speakers
Jstation preamp
Hamer Standard (explorer) w/ EMGs
Jackson PS-4 (super strat) w/ EMGs
Dean 7 string stock
Gremlin ...eh.
Washburn Lyon (strat) soon to have some new straty pickups.
5 piece drumset
4 different mics
12 channel DOD mixer (have access to)

right now I have my computer hooked up to my Aiwa home theater system. 400watts into 5channels + 50 watt sub

What I need help with is a power amp/speaker combination.
I'm thinking Carvin DCM150 or Alesis RA300 power amp. But I have no clue for speakers. Probably a 15" woofer + horn. For live situations.

The Jstation has amp and cabinet models in it for direct recording. It has a S/PDIF out (RCA). So I would like a sound card w/ S/PDIF(RCA) in/outs. I BELIEVE my home theater has S/PDIF in (have to do more research on that). So I could stay digital.

I know its *BAD* to not use monitors for mixing. But I just can't afford them at the moment. But would say the speaker cab I get be OK for monitoring or not? All this talk gets me confused!!

Anyway, if anyone has some insight I would appreciate it!! :)

thanks

PA speakers are not good for monitoring, probably worse than good home stereos.

Do a search on monitors and you'll get plenty of advice.
