A new genre- Country Trance

I think the country trance sums it up. Relied a lot on the two chord acoustic thing, to keep it going. Sound like you had fun bringing in new sounds here and there....

1st song recorded....good job

Country trance is a nice description. I'm liking what I hear, it's different but in a David Lynch sort of way. Some of the keyboard sounds are a bit "cheesy", in my opinion, but not too bad. I like the harmonics stuff a lot.

As far as the mix goes, I think you need to get a little wilder. The guitar might do well to evolve somewhat, maybe into a stereo thing and then tripled with an electric. I don't know what your situation is recording wise, maybe it's not possible. There are all kinds of possibilities with this. You have a great musical sense, very nice lines.

Good job and keep them coming.

I'll say this...that acoustic sounded great to me. Obviously, you weren't really moving around the neck that much, but the SOUND of the git was good. Please tell me how to make mine sound that way...

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks guys.

mixmkr - yeah, it's pretty undisciplined. I kind of lost track of what I was doing and just let it go. I guess it was more of an experiment than anything.

The acoustic is a Taylor 310 miked with a Rode NT1 at the 12th fret.

Must not have been his first recording. Just kidding.;).....Waldo doesnt like those multiple accounts.

I inadvertently created a duplicate account last night, I deleted it this morning and e-mailed Waldo to clear this mess up.

Will post the song again later...

interesting

MY friend Luke likes trance,,,

Ever think of adding some really low bottom synth like the big boys do... with a good driving back beat...

Just a thought... I think it would sound way too cool.. even with the Cheesy keyboard licks..

pretty cool. I've been meaning to try doing some Acidization with my acoustic licks. I really like the piece. Some of the synth sounds were a bit cheesy and out of place, although the arrangements were excellent.

Very nice Phyl. I really like the production. :D

I wouldn't call this a new genre though. This is much in the vein of new age music. You can find a lot stuff like this on Windham Hill and other similar record labels.

Now if you want to hear something like "country trance" check out the track "Uncomfortable To Be Alone" by Deeper Than Space on their "Currents" CD. This song gives you the feeling that you're herding them doggies along while tumbling tumbleweeds roll by out somewhere on the lonesome prairies of mars.:)

This is disc came out in 1995 and is one of the true classics of downtempo/ambient electronica. To find it, you'll have to go to a good independent record store that carries a lot of electronic music, or you could probably order it from Amoeba here in SF. http://www.amoebamusic.com/Home1.html Well worth the effort, if you're into hearing new kinds of music. This is very, very cool stuff.

Thanks guys.

The "Country Trance" was a little self depreciating humor, this was my first attempt at songwriting and I just let it come out without much discipline.

I'm not happy with the synth sounds either but don't know what I'm doing wrong. Maybe I should use single notes instead of chords when using a string patch.

Barefoot - Thanks for the references.
