Pleads the 5th...
I know a bunch of people knock the 3630. Not that I think it's a particularly good unit, as I have no comparison. Why then is it considered a tool of the Devil, and what makes others that much better. To quote from the movie Dirty Harry... ...I Got's to know... Thanx, Tom.

It adds noise, even in BYPASS mode... the circuitry tends to break up very quickly (distorts) if even mildy pushed - especially at the +4 dbU gain structure.... and with the compression engaged, even lightly, bad artifacts (clicks, pops, assorted noises) occur....

All these characteristics combined make it useless except for non-essential scratchpad demo use.

damn, Bruce actually gave a straight answer...he must be in the Christmas spirit....

and everything he said is true.....

there are so many lower cost options that the 3630 just shouldnt even be an option....

Behringer Autocom $79
Behringer Composer $99
RNC $175

gidge if you had to just buy the autocom or just the composer which would you buy out of those two and why ?

the AutoCom because its cheaper:D

i dont think the Composer had anything that the Autocom didnt and the Autocom has an enhancer which i havent tried yet....theres a thread somewhere recently where MrQ explained the difference to me and it wasnt much....

i went with the Autocom....

gidge you are the master of budgets i,ll give you that and if i was in a dam hurry to record id gold plate all your posts nahh im just hassling ya mate

but really was it only price that swayed you i mean i own two rnc,s and a behringer multigate that was given to me for nothing so i guess im just wondering which was the better buy of the two and why that was so thats all my multigate has 4 chans of gate four chans of expander

no, it wasnt just the price....the Composer didnt have anything extra that i needed, and the Autocom had the enhancer.....

"The Composer has adjustable L/R Gate & Peak Limiter controls.
The AutoCom doesn't. " MisterQ

but the AutoCom has the enhancer, which i havent even used.....

but if you have RNC's why would you want these dudes....they work decent enuff for some milder compression settings and very well with limiting and gating....but you cant hit these babies real hard on compression......

if you was interested in one of the 2 it would come down to which feature you wanted:

adj. L/R Gate and peak limiter controls - Composer

enhancer - Autocom

i guess its just me thinking how much of each piece of gear i need this has been an old pain in the ass question for me gidge i sort of have not bothered much of late with gear lists anymore i figure im going to try and buy one good piece of good gear per item i need and use this if the needs comes for more add on as i require and only buy what i know will work

between the pair of rnc,s and that multigate i have that will do for now in the compressor and gating dept

multi fx is the next thing now for me and that wont be easy because even the good units seem to have some drawbacks i want no drawbacks and demand the stuff to be great so i wont buy these multi fx units till i find what iam after i start my search in the tc electronics stuff if i dont find what i am after i may have to settle for lexicon if i cant swing the higher end tc,s

MIC PRE WISE im going to look at one of these locally built sebatrons and with a street value of under 900usd for four mic pres plus some other additional add on i cant really complain

heres the url check it out

AND FOR THE REST OF THE GEAR WELL ALL IN GOOD TIME ONCE I GET ENOUGH CASH FOR IT ALL
