A Mic Story

Somebody mentioned Radio Shack on one of the other threads. I just thought I'd convey a little story that happened to me about 12 years ago. For the record, before I proceed; This is not meant as an indictment of Radio Shack stores in general as there service for the most part is fine, but I think they ought to screen their salespeople a little better before they hire them. Anyway. I was at a local shopping mall which had a music store. I was in the market for a microphone for my home recording needs. I wanted to buy something a little better than what I had been using (the cheap kind that used AA batteries in them). I bought a Peavey that I paid about $200.00 for, but as it was a balanced condenser that used an XLR connector, and my Fostex 4-tracker had no XLR input, I had to buy an adaptor, which meant I had to go to the Radio Shack located in the same mall. When I walked into the RS I had the Peavey in it's box under my arm. I told the RS salesman what I needed, and when he saw that I had a microphone that I bought at another store he said, rather rudely "We sell THOSE too!" I didn't complain to the management (I should have) but I thought that this was a very distastefull thing for this sales rep to do. He was ridiculing me for buying my mic at another store other than RS, and that was none of his business. Anyway, thanks for listening. If you are interested, check my work out at http://johnbowen.iuma.com. Your site pointed me to IUMA. Thanks alot.

I though everything sounded real good, but what the hell do I know I'm just a Bass Player...Donny!!!

Well, did RS sell the exact same mics? And was they cheaper? If so, I think it was the RS guys DUTY to tell you this, and congratulate him for doing so.

If they weren't cheaper, or if it wasn't the exact same mic, it just shows that he didn't know what he was talking about and so should have shut the f*ck up. :)

Radio Shack is a crap shop, and they don't sell Peavey mics, or any other mic worth owning for that matter. The only things I have ever purchased from them are freaky cable adapters that you can't get anywhere else, and I usually have to return them 3 times before I find one that works. And by the way, I don't like being asked for my name, address, phone number, blood type, and sexual preference every time I buy a 3 dollar adaptor. How in the heck do they stay in business?

Just decline to give the information..that's what I do.

Well, if you walk in with a mic into a RS store and the counter guy says "We sell mics too", then you buy what you need, and after existing you say "Oh, and by the way, you don't sell mics. You sell things that LOOK like microphones, but are only useful to shove up the ass of store personell who don't know what they are talking about".
:)
