I have been looking for a post that dealt with a question regarding recording guitars. The example given was Weezer. How is that a clean guitar sound can coexist with several incredibly distorted guitars. As well as the transition from really clean to really distorted. Anyone?

pick a song weezer does where it's like that and i can probably give you a good guess as to how it's done

i've picked apart several of their recordings (especially pinkerton) because of their innovative recording style/quality..

Yeah, I bet they used guitars.......and amps, too. And they probably even used some microphones! :D

If the tracking is hot or loud enough (use a compressor in the chain if not) you should be able to get that clean guitar jangle to mix right in with the overdriven guitars.

Like someone above mentioned you will need to eq it at mixdown to make it sit right.

I just recorded a song that started out with an accst guitar by itself (compressed at -10 thresh old 4to 1 slow attack medium release) and then the distorted guitar comes in, pow!!! and just starts with the same cords and tempo of the accstic.I kept the accstic playing thriugh the whole song and panned it at 3oclock right and panned the distorted guitar at 2oclock left. The accoustic was recorded with a heavy pick sound and some string racking. It is amazing how well you can hear the accustic. The Rolling stones did this a lot in the whole Sticky Fingers album and I love the effect.Sorry I digress.
