A little help

Hey.

I'm in a bit of a mix up. I want something with at least 8 inputs, phantom power, and some good ,mic pres, but not so expensive as pro tools. I was looking at the Tascam FW1884, but i dont need the control surface, and that is a little too expensive too.

I was thinking maybe a M-Audio Delta 1010, but heres the thing that i really want: I want to be able to record each mic to a seperate track? Thats the big thing. And does that have phantom power?, Also, can you control the EQ and volume of each channel right on the PC? I dont know I just want good quality, and all I want is one one mixer with one cord going to the computer. Oh and one more question, does XLR have better quality than 1/4"?

The Delta 1010 doesn't have preamps. You'll need those for each microphone you will record with. Maybe a 1010 with a mixer (I have a Soundcraft M12 that I take the Direct Outs straight to my 1010).
 
The Aardvark Q10 comes with 8 ins, preamps and inserts.

To record each input to a seperate track you need multitracking software like one of the Cakewalk products. This software will let you control eq and volume as well as delay, reverb, compression and a myriad of other plug-in effects.

XLR is a balanced connection. 1/4" is either balanced or unbalanced depending on the type of cable you use. Balanced eliminates unwanted noise if you use long cables. I'm not sure how the Q10 is set up, but the preamps on my Yamaha mixer only work with the xlr connections

i had to give up my Q10 b/c my DAW is a dual processor it begun to lock up my box litteraly freezing it to a force reboot and that's on a XP so we had a problem there, i used mine for almost a year before this problem showed up
and Aardvark is very slow with the drivers so do consider if you have a dual processor

aside for that everything is nice about that soundcard
but if you can afford it get the fw 1884
