Hey guys.
I love to sing and i seem to be able to switch up and sing a bit of every genre reasonably well.... ive had vocal lessons and my teachers didn't think i would ever get good at singing because i was to much a "jack of all trades" to focus on a genre...
I really don't think i'm that great but everyone says i'm great and can't get enough. Even my real musical friend doesn't want to admit it but he thinks i'm great.
I don't know i just thought i could come here for a bit of guidance. I don't have any kind of proper mic but i guess ill need to stick up some raw recordings for you guys to hear.
I love singing rock music and acoustic. I have a deeper voice and often have trouble in higher notes and pitches but some songs fit well for me.
Any ideas on how to make a fairly good recording for you guys to judge with audacity and a laptop mic?
I was thinking of singing either Through the Glass by Stone Sour or Creep by Radiohead.

If you're committed to using just Audacity and the laptop mic, then just go ahead and do it. I dunno how much advice can be given about using that method but know that it's not going to sound awesome. It mightn't be a bad idea to invest in a decent mic and some kind of USB preamp or a handy recorder system (H4, BR series, etc), if you really want to share/hear your voice and work on it further. It's very hard to improve without being able to listen to what your doing and analyze it.

fairly good recording ... and a laptop mic?

^^^ This is an oxymoron.

Minimum mic = Shure SM58. Preferable mic = Large Diaphragm Condenser, but this can get costly.
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have a recording interface as well. M-Audio has some decent inexpensive ones. You aren't getting out for under $500 with this (if you get a cheap pair of monitors for playback). You might as well look into Reaper ($40), too. Maybe Studio One Artist to start ($30). But if you cross this line the money pit begins.
