I've decided I'm going to start recording my band at home rather than go to expensive studios when I could learn from it and do it the way I want it done. I'm needing advice with gear, sound proofing, mixing/mastering techniques. What I am working with gear wise is a platinum Trackmaster pro-compressor, a MR-8Mk2- Mixer, a lexicon interface (not sure if its even necessary), and a st59 sterling audio Mic, Pintech Escape electric drum Kit. I'm dealing with a 7 1/2 by 6 foot room. Not very big but big enough for 2 bar stools, a computer desk, and a mic/stand. Sound proof wise I was thinking I would get Theater curtains, being thick and heavy I assume they will be acoustically sound proof. being that we use electric bass, drums, and guitar, vocals will be the only acoustically recorded track. I haven't figured out how to save, mix, or master on this device what so ever. I have read the manual 3 times front to back and still can't seem to get it, anyone with any experience with the MR-8mk2 have any advice for me? Is my gear decent enough for a demo? Is my sound proofing method logical? Please help me, I'm VERY new to recording. :o

You should really just study for a while first. You're looking for years of experience from a forum post - It doesn't work like that.

I'll save my personal feelings about the gear selection, save the note that you didn't divulge the most important piece - the monitoring chain. Without a doubt, no question, the most important purchase you'll make by a long shot. Add to that the space -- The space you're in is going to require absolutely obscene amounts of broadband trapping to even remotely be a viable space -- assuming you're looking for some eventual resemblance of "quality" from your recordings. If you're not and you're just trying to get some tracks down for fun, it's obviously less of an issue.

Theater curtain is not "soundproofing" - Soundproofing is all about construction. Room treatment is certainly important though - and theater curtain won't cut it. It'll deaden the highs a bit, but that's just going to make it more muddy than it already is. Broadband trapping, lots and lots of it. So much that the first thing I'd recommend is seeing if you can move into a larger space.
