I own the Boss SP202 sampler and have basically used the internal memory to sample various personal performances.
Quick example:
When using the Hi-Fi sample rate in mono, which allows you
approx 40 secs.of sample time,I'll sample myself on bass and my drum machine for 2 measures on pad 1,1 measure of lead guitar on pad 2,1 measure of keyboard/synth material
on pad 3 and 1 measure of either rhythm git or percussion
on pad 4. Since the internal memory on the SP202 is BANK A/B, I can simultaneously play all 2-3 or all 4 pads at the same time thus producing a simple song.
Realizing that 35 secs of HiFi-Mode sampling time is not enough,I bought the 4MB SmartMedia card which allows you to have approx 4 1/2 minutes of HiFi-Mode sampling time all the way to 37-38 minutes of sampling time in LoFi-Mode.
Problem: On Bank C/D (the SmartMedia drive),if I sample 4
measures of drums and bass on pad 1,4 measures of keyboards
on pad 2,and 4 measures of lead gits on pad 3,I can't play them all at once. WHY? If I can play 4 pads at the same time
on internal memory Bank A/B,why can't I do the same on external card Bank C/D?
Or,is it because I've already got samples on internal memory and the SP202 won't allow me to play multi-pads
on external? Help!
(I already went thru the manual 2000 times and my question
is not answered)
10 free cases of the beer of your choice if you can answer this 1.
Thx

Look on page 19 of the manual. One (mono)pad in the C/D bank uses 3 voices, and one (stereo) pad uses 4 voices(which is the limit!!!) Can't really tell you why but...DAMN I like beer!!!!

Thx rzt, however page 19 only lists examples of polyphonic
pad plays but doesn't answer my question. There's got to be a way to play multiple pads simultaneously in Bank C/D.

Well that's sort of what I was getting at, I don't think there's a way to play multiple pads in the C/D bank! You could play a mono pad from the C/D bank and a mono pad from the A/B bank but that's about it! Limitations, limitations! :(
