Hi guys,

Recently got my M-Audio Firewire Solo and a Studio-Projects B1 mic out of the closet, and today was my first attempt at recording a small song.

I recorded the acoustic guitar using the B1 and the DI, and then proceeded to pan them 50-50. I recorded bass through the DI, and vox using the same B1.

I know the performance is comedic at best, but I'm more interested on the techcnical side of the song, the mix that is. I feel like everything is "crowded" and on top of each other, and the guitar could be less muddy.

Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks in advance!

Fun song.

Vocal sounds OK. Just bit on the cloudy side, but not bad. A little pitch problem near the end. On the second to last "here" (if I understood the lyrics right).

Agree on the guitar, not much clarity. So tell us about the set up. What kind of guitar? What kind of mic? Where did you place the mic? What are the characteristics of the room you recorded in? What is your signal chain?

I have an acoustic guitar with nylon strings, which I recorded through my Studio Projects B1 mic and simultaneously through DI.

The mic was placed pointing to the 12th fret, as indicated on a few articles online.

The room I record in isn't very big and is kind of square, which I know makes it terrible for recording, because of all the reflections, but that is one thing I just can't change! :p Or maybe I'll start recording somewhere else in the house.

What I did in this first version was pan 50-50 the mic'd guitar track and the di guitar track.

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,

Hi again guys,

This is my second attempt at mixing this track, and instead of using the DI track I chose to only use the mic'd one.

I panned the guitars 70-70, and pushed one of the track 30ms forward. Furthermore, I tried a bit of eq'ing... Cut 3dbs at 200hz (to reduce boominess and mud) and boosted 2dbs at 3Khz to gain some clarity.

Also boosted 2dbs at 3Khz on the voice track!

What do you think? Any improvements?

Thanks once again,
