A human whistle...

I need to record me whistling. I know that I don't stand 6 inches from a LD condenser and whistle into the mic. I was just needing a good place to start.

Mics available: sm58, 603s, Behringer B1, SP B1

My first instinct (although probably wrong) would be to go for the SM58....I think it would be smoother dynamically and tonally, unless you're a really super good whistler!

Other than that, the reason you have the variety of microphones you have is that you can try them all out on a particular source....so experiment! Let us know which you prefered.

The main thing is to position the mic so that it's not directly in the airstream of the whistling.

My instinct would be to place the mic about forehead level, 12" away, angled down so it is aimed towards the mouth. That way the air blast passes beneath the mic.

If you whistle off axis I would think it would work fine. Maybe turn at a 90 degree angle to the mic but a couple inches from the diaphram.
