Pali Face

the inspiration of this song, is the infamous "pali face" ski runs at arapahoe basin, colorado....

the vision:

light snow, light fog, twilight conditions, it's spooky.....
and you're riding the chair up to the top, and you're looking down into the trees below, and you swear you see creatures darting to and fro between the trees, that you're getting ready to ski down through........

LOL

I played so loud during the recording of this, that when i was done, i heard the neighbors' dog howling outside....

many times throughout the song, i hold long notes, if you listen carefully, you'll hear them just take off on their own.....

i was not even picking some of the lines, just moving my fingers across the fretboard, and the notes would just scream out all on their own.....

i had fun.
enjoy

Sounds awesome. I like the lead tone. The drums sound good also, what did you use for drums?

thanks for listening, strat0tele

the lead sound....
it's a Carvin DC-200, through a 60 watt mesa mark2b head, into a pair of 1x12 cabs w/celestions .......
a boss DS-1 driving the lead signal a bit....

the drum machine, was a roland 505.......
an older unit, dates back to 1986 or so......

no more comments on this one?

just one?

i kinda thought the idea of loud volume recording would be appealing....

in the situation i'm in now, i can no longer do this kind of recording...

bummer...

i think i need an isolation cabinet for my amp, so i can crank it again....
though playing with the pod xt has been fun....

Hey Gonzo-x

I joined this site along time ago but haven't been here in awhile but your tune here has prompted me to leave my first post.

I love it!

Great guitar playing. And the tone is fucking awesome !!
You can tell you're playing loud because of all the sweet, sweet feedback that comes in and out. I believe you had a lot of fun laying down that lead.

Powerful stuff, man

kind like floyd with some added testosterone

I'm getting ready to go skiing next month!! I'll be thinking of this song. I really like the guitar work! Neighbors maybe not? lol

Very groovy textures going on here. Might I ask what type of mic did you use for guitar?

wow, thread came back to life! thankx.....

crazy eddie
GLAD YOU CAME BACK IN THE WATER!
thanks for listening... glad you liked it...
the feedback, yeah, that part was fun....
not every song is a good vehicle for that, but this one was......

jeffoest-
alright jeff, goin' skiing.....
where are you going to head to?
If you come to Salt Lake, i'll meet you up at Alta! that's my spot....
the mic, was the simple, lowly shure sm57.
right up on the grille.

Nice song. Very nice song actually. I ended up saving it! :)

Alta? There is nothing to do there. And SLC is a little weird. Breck, Arapahoe Basin, and Winter Park (all in CO) are where it is at. Plus, I live in CO. :)

hey mate, can you put your song on lo-fi or something?

i lived in summit county for about three months and went down a-basin a couple of times.

so i would really like to hear your song but my 56k modem connection is really slow.

Another GONZO-X classic...

You have one of the best guitar sounds I've heard for a home recording....

Man that feedback and sustain are sweet!!

Nice recording all around, great job...

;)

thanks for all the comments, folks.....

JEFF-
if the weather dries up in jackson when you're there, we're only about a 5 hour drive south...
follow the snow...
Little cottonwood canyon is known for it's epic powder days....

Morningloryseed-
thanks for listening, and take as many as you want!

now, on that Alta thing....
nothing to do?
you go there to ski! what else do you need?!!
it' mecca.
best powder in the world.
and this isn't up for discussion........ ;)

slc is fine, the mormons don't bother you if you don't bother them.
LOL
my buddy jim, is a lift op at keystone..... we have this conversation all winter....
"so how much snow did you get at keystone?"
"oh man, we got 8"!! powder day!"
"oh yea, well, we got 3 feet! how's that for a powder day?!"
LOL again........
right now, Alta has a 85" base, and that's after 3 weeks of high pressure/no snow.
Keystone, for example, has a 20" base.
that's pityful.
and there you have it.
i'll come to arapahoe, after they get some snow.
meanwhile, i've had 5 waist deep powder days this season, all before jan. 1 !!
and the season is young.....

sandwiches-
lofi, you say.....
still in the dark ages, eh?! ;)
summit county is a beautiful place......
i'll see what i can scratch up on the lo-fi thing...
i might have it posted at my IUMA site...... but it's having problems at the moment....

kelly5150-
'classic' eh?
i don't know about that!
LOL
thanks for the compliments....
