Can I use an analog mixer out through an ad/da converter and burn directly to a cd?

Yes...

What's your platform? Roxio lets you do that with "Toast"(MAC) and "Easy CD Creator"(PC).

ANy sound card's A/D section will work, as long as the card is functioning inyour system.

I would rcord to the hard drive and burn the final product to CD, afterwards. The Hdd is more responsive, and will be less likely to create coasters while you record.

I was looking at a cd burner (tascam). On sale it was like $450. I was wondering Why someone could justify that over a $79 CD-RW for a PC, which I have. I asked the salesman if you could record a disk straight , say from a live performance, and he said only if your mixer has a digital out to accomodate the CD-R's digital in. Which led me to my question:
Can I buy an out board AD/DA converter (I hear mention of these in professional articles unless I'm miss understood?) and still use my anolog mixer and burn a live performance to CD?

Yep!! If the burner can do it straight then going from your board to A/D to the burner is the way.
