a cover of sorts

Im still not ready to submit my own stuff...but hers a little somthing just for the heck of it....

I dont have any monitors yet(if anyone has any they would sell for cheap contact me) so mixed it on headphones.

the first is my rendition of 3 libras by A Perfect Circle.
there are no drums and bass, so it might not sound "big" since the top and bottom of the spectrum just isnt there, but its alright.
The guitar is a cheap $250 squire fender strat. the amp is some dinky practice amp and the mic for both vocals and guitar is an sm57. I have no preamp yet so i used the soundcards and it was all mixed on Cool Edit Pro.

not bad considering that...

the second one is the song Judith by APC. I cut out the vocal frequencies and just put my own vocals over it. again, used an sm57 and mixed on CEP. I did it in one take on one track, so its not perfect. I would go through and do 20 or so takes and take the best of each, but I was in a rush.

Anyway, listen to it on HEADPHONES! otherwise it sounds like crap.

I listened to both songs. You've got good taste in music.

The first one took a couple listens to get used to but from what I can tell its not bad for a guitar and voice ditty. Maybe you should get one of the board members to add on bass and drums to spruce things up. Every once in a while I can hear little messups but you probably hear them too.

The second one was more familiar to my ears except the vocals which you did a great job singing but I think you should raise the vocal a little bit.

I used my monitors to play these back, not headphones like you suggested but they sounded pretty good through my monitors. I think its very good for what your working with.
 
apc is very good taste in music indeed.

the 3 libras one i think the guitars turned out rather good.
the vocals i know are waay off. im normally really good at singing, but on just that song I can never seem to pitch it right. frusterating....

again, if it were to have bass, drums, and violin like on the record it would really fill in some holes.

about the vocals on judith..
thanks. what i recorded was about 75% of my vocal ability for that song. like i said, i only did one take and took whatever i got.
on headphones the vocal level sounds alright, but on speakers its too low. remember, i mixed on headphones since i have yet to get monitors.

i played the judith one for my brother and asked him what he thought of it without saying that it was me singing. hes a fairly big apc fan too. he knew that it wasnt the album version and he actually thought that it was a live recording. when i told him it was me he didnt beleive me until i played only the vocal track for him.

its wierd, even when i listen it doesnt sound like me. i have a VERY different singing voice compared to my speaking voice.
people say when i talk i have a very deep monotone voice, but when singing i can get very high and its anything but monotone.

im talking too much....time for bed.
 
Dude, convert the 1st one to mp3 too so we can stream it... I dont have 1 hour and 26 minutes to wait on it :)

You can't just turn down the vocals and sing on top...

That's karaoke....very lame.

Besides which it sounds like crap. Learn how to feel 6/8 time and come back.

Im not going to type it all again...so heres the jist..


I know its karaoke. I just did it for fun. nothing serious.

I CAN fell 6/8 time. I can play guitar totally in sync with the Tool song The Grudge....so there!

I recorded my vox using a bizzare technique and as a result it puched them ahead quite a bit.

given enough time and recording my own songs i can feel the time signatures just fine.
