The first two inputs of my Firepod are labeled Mic/Instrument, and the rest are labeled Mic/Line. Does Mic/Instrument mean that I can run a guitar or bass right in without a DI box?

And when I have Phantom power on channels 1-4, it wont do anything to the 1/4" jacks, will it?

Thanks

You are correct. I've had two Firepods. Just plug your guitar/bass straight into inputs 1/2.

I can't answer for certain about the phantome power, but I'm pretty sure that it won't matter. Have you checked the manual?

what he says ^^^^

and you can safely plug jacks into channels one and two with phantom power on.

Oh, and another thing. I'm sure this question applies to all Firewire interfaces...but:

When I'm using the FP to record on Logic, if I have something recorded on all eight channels, can I create a new track and use, say, channel 1 on the interface to make a track 9 on Logic after I've recorded something on all 8? Or will it record over what is already on track 1? I've never used a Firewire interface before, and don't completely understand how they work with DAWs, so this might not make sense or may seem silly.

But an answer would help either way!

Thanks

Yes. Just go to track 9 in Logic, go to the input selector, and select which ever Firepod input you want on that track. This is the same for the first eight tracks of Logic as well . . . they don't have to line-up with the eight firepod tracks, and you can select whichever Firepod input on any Logic track.

You could record 8 more tracks if you wanted. Actually the Firepod will record 10 tracks at a time. 8 analog & 2 spdif.

SPDIF = Stereo Pair something? For keyboards and stuff?

S/PDIF=Sony/Philips Digital Interconnect Format

It's a two channel digital signal. If you have a 2 channel preamp that has spdif out then you can connect that to the Firepod's spdif in for 2 extra inputs, giving you a total of 10.
