So.. two months ago I recorded a band with my sonar rig which is:

Intel Pentium 4 PC (2+ ghz, 1 Meg Ram, MOTU PCI-324)
External USB Hard Drive
MOTU 2408mkII
Crate-Audio Mixer (Yes I know it's crappy..)
Various Microphones/Cables
Sonar 6 Producer Edition

Now, I had no problems two months ago, but now when I run the signal to the comp trhoguh the motu I'm get horribly loud humming and barely anything coming through the mic.

I've tried 3 different mics and different cables all around.. same thing no matter what I do.

My first assumption was that my mixer finally died, but I can't confirm that. Though I doubt a mic/cable/motu problem could be the source of the hum and lack of signal volume...

Any Opinions?

Well it sounds like you eliminated mics and mic cables, now eliminate the mixer and the interface. Only way I know to fix a problematic signal chain is to start at the source, which you already started, and go from there.

funny.. i'd edit it, but i'm lazy...

fixed the problem, reinstalled the drivers for my pci card and everything magically worked... weird..
