please check this out....

it's called "pali face", and the story is on the song info.... it's a long, spacey instrumental, best listened to in an altered state......

this is my first pass at setting up an mp3.com site, i'd appreciate some ideas and info about how to spice it up a bit...

i've got some artwork to go along with it, but can't seem to get a handle on it...

here's the link:

Nobody's listening?

someone's gotta have an opinion!
lol

Gonzo

Great tune, I love this kind of stuff, even though it's not quite what I do musically. The guitar sounded great. The sound and the playing. So did the drums. Very impressive tune. Being in an altered state would make this song that much better for sure, but it's a little early for that. I love this.

uhhhh....long download...but worth the listen.....guitar city ( I think I said that about some of your other stuff)...sweet layered sound...I read the song info....and yeah, I could feel the chairlift....the song also had a native american feeling in it, but it didn't sound like the usual generic BAM bambambam BAM bambambam stuff......canyon echos abounded too.....

Small nitpick, really small, but the high hat sound didn't move me too much....otherwise, that mix was right where it should be to my ears.......gibs

I really enjoyed it very much. I too love this kind of stuff. But I kept waiting for the scary part, I mean the really SCAAARRRYYY part. I read the song story and totally got it, wanted to hear it get more intense at that spot in the hill though. That's my only nit-pic, because I think eveything else is just right. I LOVE instumentals that actually depict something. The whole time I saw it snowing and even when things change I never lost the image of where I was on the hill, or the snowing. How the fuck did you do that to me :D cool as hell!

P.S. Where did you get "GONZO-X" from? Keeps reminding me of Armored Saint. The drummer is also GONZO.

WOW! thanks for the listens, people.....

ray j-
did you ever get to hear the song in it's intended environment, i.e., altered states?
it seems to make a difference.... lol.....

hey gibs!
thanks for checking it out. i totally agree with you on the hi hat sounds, it just boils down to having some pretty limited gear to work with. if i had this, and if i had that....
really, i'd love to work with a live drummer, but i just haven't been lucky enough to score that yet....

glad you liked it, and yeah, i think i could do another version that was a little more aggressive or scary in parts, it's so wierd how, at any given time, your vibe can go to the left or the right, depending on... what? i don't know! i did 2 passes on that solo, and the 2nd one had some more, well, screaming type passages, but i settled on the first one, just because it was the first one... maybe i second guessed myself.... maybe.....

gonzo-x, well, that's a short boring story, so i wont go there. but armored saint, that's a cool band....

Hi

Very moody song.. nice atmosphere. I don't really like guitars tweaked that much, but that's only me.. Otherwise I don't have much to comment on regarding the sound... oh yeah, the snaredrum... I don't like that snare.. maybe take some time to experiment with that one...

It's a nice song, I missed some sort of melody to build up the song around. IMHO it was to much improvised-sounding soloing going on.

Bottom line: Very well done, I'll check out your other tunes right away.

Actually I was thinkin the backround music,(the hill) :) should change a bit from hill to scaarryy part of hill. Your lead would naturally get more intense with it. Now go fix it before you realize I'm just jealous and tryin to psych you out! :D

GOT ANOTHER NEW ONE ON "another" SITE.....

the new one's called trouble. it's a work in progress, any suggestions for a final version....? here's the link:

meshuggah.....
thanks for the listen. yeah, i agree with you about the snare sound, it does suck. it's a drum machine from about 1985...
the solo, yeah, it was all improvised. the song was set up for that purpose, but it is a melody line thoughout, until the end section...

roktuk-
yeah, the imagery is really scary, or could be, just depends on how good you are! well, in those twilight conditions, with the snow coming down in avalanche proportions, it could be pretty scary....:)

Trippy

I liked all the gtr delays. You know what? I liked all the delays. The mix has a very wide stereo field. Very cool. I think the sound is a bit dated, but still very cool. Keep up the good work.

Another great sounding mix. Where are you recording/mixing all of your songs, and what are you tracking to? Everything sounds like it was done very well.

Good job.

THANKS JAMIECER

in answer to your questions........

these are all recorded in the bedroom, and i try to use the space to my advantage..... when i want a really dead sound, i'll put the speaker cab to my guitar/bass rig right up against the bed, so the covers and whatnot soak up all the reflections...
sometimes i'll put it in the middle of the room, and distant mic it..
sometimes the cab is towards a wall, so i'll get the reflections, and i'll close mic with a 57, and room mic with an at4033 condenser, and blend them out of phase.

this is all recorded with a roland vs880ex, with no outboard gear save for an art tube mp on the mic input, and a little dbx compression for the mic input.....

mixed through a home stereo consisting of a yamaha natural sound reciever/amp, and a pair of infinity research standard speakers, circa 1985, but recently re-coned, now they kick ass.......
i do low level mixes through the speakers, then headphone mix with some really flat at's.....
then i go back to the stereo, and do a really loud mix, and then somewhere between the three is where i land.....
sometimes i'll do a jambox mix as well......
