Armistice
Son of Yoda
It struck me that, about 9 months into my PC / DAW reinvention, after a decade on a Yamaha AW4416 standalone machine, that in that entire time, my set up (HP business PC with 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD, 1TB 7200rpm disk / Windows 7 Professional / RME Fireface UCX / Reaper) has not ever, once, locked up, stalled, glitched, lost data or had any other problems at all...
Which considering the crash rate of the Yamaha machine once you started pressing too many buttons (rumours are it ran a 286 chip!) is an absolute godammned revelation.
Not to mention the unlimited track count, the ease of tracking multiple takes and the simplicity of editing taking what I was actually doing to hitherto unimagined (by me...) levels.
An awesome experience all around. Nothing has been difficult, just a bit of a learning curve now and then which the good folks here have been more than helpful with.
Can't recommend the PC / DAW route any more highly - just wonder why it took me so long ...
