a ballad? It's true - even rats can be soft and cuddly

Well thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. This really gives me something to take into consideration when working on the next incarnation, which will be the final CD version. So far we have the drums, bass guitar, and violins recorded. The drums sound really good, recorded at Harmonie Park. I still haven't got the hang of recording drums. It seems like the real issues you guys were jumping on were the vocs and guitars so there's something to mull over.

This song was a bit contoversial for me as to whether or not to pursue it for the CD because I wrote it about my ex-wife while we were still married and trying to make a go of things.

I'm thinking back to the day
The day you came to stay in my time
And it's a farce the things they'll say
To make you think I've gone astray
When your line has added time
I can't find the words to say
I want you dear, I want your ear
For whispering things you like to hear... etc.

She gave me the greatest gifts anyone could ever give, being my two daughters, and for that words could never express my gratitude. But on the flip side of that, she drove me fucking nuts and pissed me off relentlessly every day it seemed with her shitty pessimistic attitude and spoiled brat syndromes. So in that way of my underlying resentment this song is hypocritical. She doesn't have a creative bone in her body. When I recorded this song and played it for her she couldn't care less. She didn't even understand what it meant.

But after a bit of deliberation I decided to keep it. I've always like the song, and it's pretty easy to listen to. I look at it now like a reminder to myself that at least I tried to give a go at making things work. Tearing apart the family of two innocent little girls is not an easy decision to make. I know now that it was the right choice, but it continues to be a difficult life to get used to. Since writing this, I've written my balls out response to it called 'idea lightbulbs blinking on in a continuous strobe effect growing perpetually brighter':

someone got left behind at the rest stop
but I can't remember who no I can't remember who
not sure if we should turn back now
the wheels keep getting hotter
and there's all these farmers daughters
keep me in line with your wine and songs

Thanks again guys.
