Hello All,

It has been a while since I have posted a question or comment, primarily because I can usually find the answers by searching around.
I have been using Sonar 3, and a FW1884 for about 2 years and it is coming close to the time for me to upgrade my setup.
Primarily because I would like to be able to take my mixes to other places for further mixing or for recording vocals and etc.
Obviously I need to get on board with Pro Tools...but here is my dilema.
I would really like the option of sequencing and transporting my mixes in both sequencing programs. Meaning, I am able to transport my mixes in either Protools or Sonar formats.
Half of me says to just go with a MAC and Digi setup, but that would really limit me, plus I don't like intel processors - in my opinion they are crap.
What I am considering is a beefed up AMD dual core with WinXP. Staying PC will allow me to run both programs (not at once!) and really cater to my customers.
Does anyone else utilize both of these programs without problems? What are some of the issues I might need to look at? Are there any translation problems with PC protools and mac protools?

yes, unless you check the PC/Mac compatibility option when creating a new session. Then you'll be fine for all versions of PT on Mac or PC.

Why the lean to pro-tools? I'm a SONAR 5 user and very pleased. Some things are a little clunky in the post tracking area but over-all I'm very happy. For me the thing that I tend to focus on is the ease of use during the recording session. Then, after that, the mixing. The control surface was my biggest investment and best friend to date.

I guess my point is that a good recording is a good recording. I'm not bashing the Pro-Tools product but I'd spend the bucks on the studio and playback/monitoring and/or the recording gear. That's just me.

Get the best tracks possible to the mastering house and let them clean it up. Sorry, not bustin' yer chops just want to understand the motivation and the need here.

Peace on to u.

Punkin,

The need to have access to Protools is because, lets face it, a majority of studios use it.
I like working in Sonar as well, but I really just want to be flexible.
For instance if a friend of mine has an idea that was started in Protools and would like me to work with it - I can, and vice versa if someone had a track in Sonar they wanted to work on.

admittedly i have been anti profools for some time and dont expect to change so take this with a grain of salt... my princple problem with them has been the exclusivity factor...ie: had to run mac... had to spend serious dough on proprietary hardware... so they end up having to move to intel type chip sets ok... and now it's going native ok... but i dont think this would be a good time to consider a change as the installed user base (the primary reason to go there in the first place) seems to be somewhat up in arms about the changes and appear to be abandoning them a bit... witness an increase in logic and cubase/nuendo... also anyone who believes that getting le is getting PROtools is a fool....
