I need a fast acting A/B switch to switch from one amp to the other, preferably passive (don't want to use batteries or power cord). What models should I look into? Something that won't affect my guitar signal in any way.

Whirlwind makes a very good one, very quiet too. But it's not passive, just remember to unplug the darn thing when your through though.

dont be afraid of kit projects

Many times if you have an electronics savvy buddy, simple devices like this can be produced for a few dollars parts cost.Of course some guys don't trust "homebrew" gear but I have had good luck.I regularly use a homemade 3 channel direct box and have saved a few bucks on many cords etc.Radio Shack will have all the parts and a little soldering is about all that would be required.

Then there's Boss Line Selector LS-2 pedal, not "passive", but it can also supply power to a bunch of other pedals, when it's powered through adapter. This puppy does more then just split signal, it's almost like a mini-mixer, you can adjust levels of A vs. B, use it to switch guitars, amps, or create FX loops. I have one, but that's from when I was playing live. I don't see how it would be useful in a studio.

I've had a DOD a/b pedal (passive) for 12 years and still works great. Solid switch, all metal casing, quiet, $20.

Yeah:)

My vote is for the DOD there still cheap and sound good and quiet.
Reco:)
