After dutifully using the search function and otherwise preliminarily researching the issue, I'm ready to spend up to $500 on my monitors. Here is part One:
Some people have advised spending the money on passive monitors and powering them through a stereo. I could do this, but it seems to defeat the purpose of getting flat, "real"-sounding monitors. Yes?
Here is part Two:
Assuming that I'm getting active monitors, the primary competitors appear to be Allessis M1's, Yamaha MSP5's, Event PS5's and Event PS6's. Geez, I guess part Two has subparts a & b: which is best, and should I add any others to the list?
