I'm mentoring this band and trying to get them on their feet and going so i decided i would record for them. I have very limited equipment and this is what came out. Feedback please!!

Used:

Omni I/O Delta 66 used to preamp two mics/record
Two Minidisc microphones (using minidisc as a preamp)

- One SM58 and the other is some really bad brand

Tell me what you think. SM58 used for vocals/guitars/ and part of drums. Bass was DI. Used Cool Edit Pro 2.0 as the software.

Please with the advice bear in mind the equipment used.

Wow, 8th grade huh? I wish i'd had that kind of command of performing rock when I was in 8th grade. Hell I'd settle for that performance in 11th grade.

I think it's a very good thing you're doing for them. And think you'll be setting yourself up to get a nice crack at some 8th grade poon.. if that's not a felony or something.

sounds like everybodys really bangin the heck out of the instruments.
as far as the recording goes.... there's a ton of work to do. to get definition of each instrument. it sounds like all the instruments are all dead center in the mix... so everything is clashing and i cant hear whats happening.
if you can... record each sound to a track... bass drum trck1 ... snare trck 2... etc.. etc.. and start panning,eq'in,modulating, beating those tracks into their own space.
the singer is running out breath on a couple verses.. he sound good.. but needs a little lung practice.

good luck... im sure you'll do great!

again i say...bear in mind i used basically 3 (one stereo) microphones on the drums....maybe some advice on placement.. Its hard to seperate the tracks when using so few mics...
