I am very new to recording but have an Roland 880. I have tried taking a recorded track out of the recorder via the main outs, run it thru an external graphic eq and or compressor and tried returning it to a different track on the 880 - kind of a hybrid of a bounce and overdub. When I do this basically all I get is a shrill squeal - similiar to feedback - on the tracks I am trying to return the precoessed signal to. This even happens when doing this same operation but running thru a Mackie 1604 board. Am I doing something wrong or is this just not possible to do.
PS - does anyone else think the Roland instruction book is terribly written too?

Thanks

Bloomington... The answer to your question will depend on which machine you have - 880ex 880v-xpanded, or just and 880. I don't know how you're routing the external FX, but you should be able to do what you're trying to accomplish with any of the VS machines. It sounds from your description as though you've created a feedback loop by routing the FX return signal back out to the external unit. Yes the Roland manuals suck. You should get your hands on the Roland application guide for your specific model. The application guides are better written, with step-by-step, plain-english instructions for most of the things you'd need to do.
