I have an Ampeg B-3 bass amp, and one of the 2 8" drivers is buzzing loudly. What would you folks suggest I put in its stead? I play mainly garage rock and do a little bit of recording, although this amp has an out that bypasses the speakers, there's either something wrong with it or it just sucks 'cause I end up micing the amp anyhow.

Thanks in advance...

From my perspective (since I'm trying to control costs), I would look at Ebay and what other 8" drivers are out there. Your best bet is to replace both, but there is not an over abundance of 8" drivers around.

I have a small extension cab with an 8" Johnson (yea, top that MF  and I put a 8" Utah in my Trademark 10. Both really rock (and have slightly different tonal qualities), but the 8" Johnson is a little "limp" compared to the Utah volume wise - and that's night and day between the two.

When I went to look for the replacement for my Trademark, there really were not a lot of choices. You can always look for new - but you may not need a $250 8" driver that can handle 150 watts.

Good luck!

Duh! I forgot to mention - you might be able to get your speaker fixed! That might be the most affordable and would better match the other one that's working ok.

You can do some speaker repair yourself - I've had about 50/50 satisfaction with speaker repair in my life.... So be advised.

If it's a little tear in the cone, you can actually use white glue if it's small, or white glue with a gauze backing (or whatever). If the surround is messed up, you can replace that as well, but that's where you might be better off taking it somewhere.

Carvin makes a 8" speaker that might not be bad. I've had good experiance with a few of their other models. MIght not be the best on the market, but their relatively inexpensive, and can handle some wattage.
