To those who want to purchase 1 or more of the 797 Audio CR998:

If no one from the rec.audio.pro newsgroup gets back to me about buying the CR998s as a group in the next few days, do you guys want to form our own group?

If so, then lets get a list going of who and how many.

We really should at least have 10.

Then, we need to figure-out who's going to gather the money, purchase them, recieve them, and then mail them to the various people. Obviously, what it costs to ship it to the individuals will be sent along with their cost of their mics and portion of shipping from 797 Audio.

I'll personally e-mail Harvey Gerst (the "Pope" of the r.a.p. newsgroup) to see if knows any organizing in the newsgroup to purchase CR998s since I know he wants to purchase a pair himself.

OK.
I e-mailed Harvey and he, of course, quickly got back to me as he always does.
He told me:

"Weston,

Contact: "Juli & Robin" <julirob@jps.net> They're trying to put this
together, I think.

So, I did and asked him to e-mail me back on what needs to be done and when. I also let him know that I knew a few people on the homerecording.com BBS were interested as well and I would pass along any information I recieved from him to the BBS and those who e-mailed me who saying they were interested and who I told I would forward any info I recieved regarding this.

I originally e-mailed the above location the same day Robert had brought this up on the r.a.p. newgroup letting him know I was interested, but he never got back to me. So, if I don't get a soon and let you guys know what to do through him, go ahead and e-mail him yourself and please let me know if you get a response.

I recieved an e-mail back from Robert and:

"Here's the deal...

I can only order 8 mics, and still have the import be an 'informal' import.

Therefore, the first six people(two are spoken for) that forward the funds:
$350USD shipped to your location(U.S.) included, will be on board.

This is for one each of the CR998 tube mic kit.

We all take the risk, we all reap the benefit.

Let me know where you stand,

Robin Farrell

PS: they need the funds wired by March 5."

I let him know I'm in. He lives just a few minutes away from me; street-bound. We're going to get together.

If anyone's still game, I suggest you e-mail him to see if there are any more openings with him.

I've been following the 797 dialogue with rapt attention. An excerpt from an email read:

>>>I can only order 8 mics, and still have the import be an 'informal' import.<<<

What is the difference between an informal and, I assume 'formal' import? Forms? A serioius legality? Will the State Dept sniff around? IRS? I am completely naive in this regard.

Yeah, I was wondering about that informal import thing, too, 'cause the more we buy, the cheaper the price. But, if we can only buy 8, then the price is a bit too high for my tastes. I think maybe I'll just get in touch with them myself and order a few of the CR414s and maybe a few of the small diaphragm condensers instead.

As far as the sound quality issue goes, I'll be happy if they sound good, but I'll also be happy just having a cool looking mic laying around to impress friends and prospective clients. Of course, if they sound like crap, that's a pretty pricey prop, but I have a good feeling about these things....

I think the lowest price for the 998 is $240 plus shipping, from 10 up. I suppose once the quantity got into the several dozen at a time, perhaps it would be lower, "surprise low," to quote an email from 797's chief engineer.

Also, insofar as a concern from another post about whether 797 is trying to masquerade as the oem of the nt-1 or other well established mics, I think it was a mattter of language and form. They have nothing to gain and credibility at risk, considering how quickly information is passed along on the 'net. Plus, since the feedback has been so positive on their most humble offering, the Marshall 2001, they don't need to mislead an anxiously awaiting public.

OK:
About the informal import, this is an import tax issue placed upon by the United States National Government; and we all know the reasons behind import tax.

What he was saying is that if he buys more than eight, then the tax will add quite a bite more to the cost.

By the way...
If any of you are planning to buy anything of any amount direct from the 797 Audio Company, you better get a move on it. The March 5th deadline from Robin's e-mail was placed upon by 797 Audio (not Robin). He and I both agree that this was placed because 797 Audio has found a distributor(s) in the US and are planning to cut off all direct sales as soon as US distribution has come into affect; and this is their way of "pushing things forward".

And you know what that means...

PMI showed-off two of the 797 Audio mics at NAMM...

And the list prices were around $1kUS; but maybe they'll lower the list price now that "the word" about 797 Audio has got around faster than a whore.

Hey Recording Engineer I just came across your post about this c12vr clone and I am wondering how I can get my hands on 1?!!? and if there still available to order I would like to purchase one. I would greatly appreciate any insight on this matter. Thank you

(tried to pm you but it says your inbox is full lol)
