Hey, all. I was wondering if anyone knew exactly how to get the Tascam 788 Portastudio to talk to Finale 2001b. What I'm trying to do is get MIDI compositions I've done on Finale to record as tracks onto the 788. I've been struggling through the instruction books to figure it out, but I still have no clue. MIDI novice talkin' here. I'd really appreciate any advice.

black day, how are songs done in Finale, I mean are you using a soundcard like soundblaster, or real synths?

I dont know the Tascam, but I know finale some. I am not sure what you are asking, but I am guessing if you are using a soundblaster or sim, just run a chord from the SB out (1/8 stereo), to the tascam. Give us some more info.

Ah, you'll have to forgive me, as I said I'm a MIDI novice. I can tell you that I don't have any external controllers at all, I just enter the notes manually onto Finale with the mouse. I'm using something called a Roland VSC-88 (virtual sound card), and it appears to be what generates the sounds. I hope that helped clear my question up a little bit.

Also, once the two are connected (if such is possible), what steps should I take from there? I've read a little about synchronization, midi time code, master/slave setup, but the details are still hazy. Maybe I should just give it a go and see what happens, eh?

thanks,
dan'l
