big papa fly, you da man!

I cant say thank you enough! thank you ! I thougt my crys for 788 music would go unanswered but there it was, a message from big papa fly, saying, where to go, and how to get there.
(did i say thanks?) I just got this beefy new computer, high speed connection, and nowhere to go to hear 788 music. That was,
until now. Thanks for the early Christmas present! I'll be checking here very, very, often and listening to others music and advice.
I dont want to make my first reply tooo long. heres my first batch of tunes, all but 2 were recorded with the 788!
Any comments, tips, insults, appreciated. I'll be checkin out others music immediately. I have never heard a 788 recording, other than my own, and the demo song. Thank you again.

Hey Samicide...I'm glad to see you here! Please don't hesitate to ask any tech questions, also. What I've noticed lately at TASCAM.com (I can go there, just not reply) is that Pat has taken to referring people to past posts. Personally, I just don't believe in that; not when it comes to working technical equipment, anyway.

I think it's very important, whether or not the question has been asked 100 times before or not, that a person be allowed to ask a question RELATIVE TO HIS/HER own situation, and not just be referred to old posts where OTHER users are asking similar questions. Like I said before, I speant MANY MANY MANY HOURS answering questions for poeple in SIMPLE terms on "that" forum. And still I was....I was...you know what? Nevermind. I'm not going to defend myself anymore.

I'm not going to get into why I was banned from the forum, you can ask if you want and I'll explain....but it doesn't really matter anymore. We've got John Penn in here now, and me, and a few others that are pumping out quality stuff and willing to visit the site often and help others, give advice, and get advice. No url bans....no political commentary bans....no profanity bans (but lets not test homerecording.com on that one)... god bless homerecording.com.

But anyway, I'm going to check your stuff out and start a new thread on it. That way we can start making the threads more artist specific, more topic specific. As long as the moderator here will give us a little leeway, I'll do my damnedest to get another site going as soon as I figure that whole thing out (starting a new forum).

It's good to have you, and I look forward to hearing what you're accomplishing with your 788. I'm going there now. I encourage any other users who happen accross us here to visit Samicide, as well as the other artists who have been referenced in this thread. It's important that you not only post YOUR OWN stuff, but also take the time to go to OTHER PEOPLE'S sites and do your best to be constructive-- artistically, and with regard to recording technique using the 788.

If and when we get a little community happeing within this great community known as "homerecording.com" I will foot the bill and settign up another forum, dedicated solely to 788 users...but meanwhile I like the diversity of this site. Surf around it and you'll find a lot of good info...!!!

BPF, aka, Johnny

I HAVE FOUND MY NEW HOME!!!!!!!!!! I love this site. I listened to your stuff SAMICIDE and thought it rocked. Much like my recordings I thought the guitar didn't stand out enough. Are all the songs there recorded on your 788? I really liked EARWIG!!!!!!!! I look foward to all the new music.

Oh Yeah, I'm gonna add EARWIG to my radio channel on mp3.com

Geez, ya go away for a few hours and look what happens. This could be the start of something.

And, after yacking up the Studio Projects C-1 for so long I find Alan Hyatt his own self over in the microphone section as a regular contributer willing to take any shot, doesn't get any better than that.

BPF, I meant what I said about all those ceo's and stuff in my email, and I don't think Tascam gets it, and it'll be their downfall. Just witness the AW 2816 from Yamaha, and it'll read Tascam backups.

Can't wait to get back and go through all the posts.

Are you telling me that if I get a rebate for my 788 (trust me, I can do it) that I can get a Yamaha 16 track and the data discs I have will lad into it. Say it isn't so!!!! Is it really time to get rid of my 788!!!??? I just got it back and one of the partitions is no good!!! Most of my ecording are 40 tracks plus...a 16 track that wil take my 788 data sound real tasty!

Yes, sort of. They've got optional software that claims to upload the Tascam backup data language. Probably with the same success rate. I think it was 60 bucks or so.

Even though I don't back anything up the Yamaha is looking more attractive to me. Although the 788 suits my needs and is a good recorder, I look at the damn thing and think of their forum and how I was manipulated.

Before I signed off their forum today I made a couple of posts to those wondering what was going on and where some people had gone to. So, after being deleted for saying things like 'tascam forum' and the like, I tried the saying 'do a search'. Seemed pretty generic to me. You know what? Pat yanked that off too, and then made a nice comment or two on my exit post of how we grow and cycle away from their forum. It took awhile but now I'm pissed.

partitions

BPF,
Have you reformatted the drive? You may have to if it won't recognize a partition.

If I were the pkillianey from TASCAM, which I can neither confirm nor deny, I'd be hurt that no one else took this screen name!

Looks like we're building a little site for MP3s and other discussions. If I were the pkillianey from TASCAM, which I can neither confirm nor deny, I would probably be pretty happy to see everyone finding a spot where they can get back to the way things were on the 788 BBS. I'm sure he thought MP3s were a lot of fun.

This should be interesting.

Hope this helps.

Pat (or am I?)

All Of Me,

Sorry about not getting back on your mp3's, I finally got a listen. Good stuff....how do you get that vocal effect? Almost sounds like the throat singing Paul Pena did on an album called 'Genghin Blues'.

The first two tracks have good fedelity but it kind of goes down a bit after that and I think it's due to the same things I mentioned in a post to samicide in this forum about mixing the busier songs differently for an mp3 due to it's compression factors.

The only song currently at my site at mp3.com mixed that way is Reading Harry Potter. I only recently came across some of this mixing info but it works pretty well. Another tip is to make sure there's a little leader before the songs begins of a few seconds, this allows the streaming process to work better.

I going to be changing things around at that site (John Malcolm Penn) soon, I was testing some things in the children's market. Also, I just bailed out on the Premium Artist pay for play thing, didn't make much sense to spend $20 and make $10. I think money could be made there but like anything, it would a lot of time and effort.

Keep up the good work.

was that the real pkillianey? I dont know the whole story with the fudes, but he sounds sincere. Im just glad BPF led me here,
and thats all i know. I've listened to the great songs by, ALL OF ME, and by John Malcolm Penn,(philboy). Are there any others?
BPF, you must find others, like you found me. It is your destiny.

peace.

Jeez, I'm looking for an anlogy to pkillinaey joining us (if that's really him)....maybe:

You move to another city to get away from your bitchy ex, and she not only moves into the same town, but right next door....then she comes over and says how nice the new neighborhood is.

I hope she just LOOKS like her, and it isn't really her. She looked good, she just had a bad attitude. I remember she used to blame her father for the dumb stuff SHE did. She always said her FATHER told her what to do--- that she was only living by her FATHER'S rules...that she really did like sharing creative ideas (and even other ideas not related to our relationship, but that her FATHER told her it wasn't good. She always said she really did like listening to our songs, but that it just took too much time out of her hair-washing schedule.

I hated her for that.

pkillianey

I think it's him, cause he went back and edited his post (deleteing some things) which shows patterns we've seen. Unfortunately the original post sat there for hours...plenty of time for TASCAM brass to have a look. Next Friday Pat will get his pink slip from TASCAM and will be starting a forum for the Yamaha AW 2816 sometime the following week.

I was checking out the OTHER forum and it appears people are looking for BPF, we need to figure out a way to get all those people there, to also have the option to come here. Probably the tech support dealing with the 788 would be better there, BUT, here is where the action will be. We need to liberate our brothers and sisters over there. maybe make peace with Pat and in return, he'll be an allie and help behind the scenes? I know im gonna hear it for that one but, we need to get more 788 people here. So far I think its, ALL OF ME, PHILBOYD, BPF, and myself,
and until I eventually switch to cubase, I'll promote alliances that will increase the size of the buffet table....................

Alright.............let me have it!

one more thing. I was at the other site and someone asked where BPF was, I posted a reply saying," I know where and theres big things going on, go to THE MOST POPULAR HOST SITE,
and put in /samicide and leave me a contact."....................... Thats how BPF found me, maybe it will work again, who knows.
it might get deleted, but at least i'm going to try to hook people up, like BPF hooked me up! Thanks again!

Locked in!

Hi Guys, greetings BPF

nice to find a few familiar faces here. This is Rich Napier here (alter ego: Dr Roo), I agree with all of the above mp3 sentiments and glad to see an alternative.

www.mp3.com/Roomusic

It's throwaway material however I do have a soft spot for some of the knob tweaks in 'quench'

More soon
Rich ;)

Dr Roo,

pretty trippy. It would fit perfectly in a video game.
cool synths, I could also probably get down with my woman to
these tunes. Now if thats not a compliment, I dont know what is!

glad you made it. I love hearing other 788 music.

peace.

roo, I liked it as well and noticed the 788 radio station on your site that was equally cool.
