Hi, Does rigid fiberglass in corners have to go from floor to ceiling or would 6' of 4" in corners be sufficent or a waste of materials? If 6' is ok should it be placed off of the floor 2'? The reason I'm asking is because OC 703 is unavaiable here in Slidell La. The only product avaiable here is Certainteed in 4' by 10' 1 1/2" thick. I'll have to use 3 sheets to get 4 1/2" thick. I'm on a tight budget so I can make 2-6'x2'traps and 2-2'x4' traps using 3 sheets. Your advise is very much appreciated. Sincere Thanks, Don

you are saying 6 inches wide to straddle the corners? From what i understand it would be significalntly less effective especially for low frequencies for two reasons:

1. Surface area. 6 inches is not going to "catch" as much as soehting wider. in fact many people reccomend not putting outside framing on traps to get additional suerface area onthe sides of the traps.

2. 6 inches wide would put the traps deep into the corners. If you pull them out a bit like a 2' by 4' panel would do, you will get better LF absorbtion. Has somehtign to do with the longer wavelengths and how they bounce off the walls, some air behind the trap will grab more sound. Alternately, if you make traps thicker, like 6 inches deep, you will make up for the missing air gap, but it is a less efficient use of the fiberglass.

I would go with the 2 by 4 panels and just add more as you can afford it.

Just reread that and it looks like i misread you.

So to answer your question, if you are indeed using 2 foot wide panels as much as you can put up will help, the more the better, so not vering every inch of the corner vertically will be fine, but jsut not as good.

One other thing, since the bass will end up piling up in the longest stretch of the room (corner to corner, probabaly along two different axis') in a pinch you should treat two corners next to each other rather than trying to treat both corners of the same diagnal.

Thanks Daav, Not having to use all four corners will makes it eaiser since one of the corners is hampered by an eletrical box and the other is near a door. Thanks again, Don
