Yeah I been drinkin, SO!?
I'm conputer shopping and would like to get a 64-bit machine to support large amounts of ram. Does anyone know if 6.4le will run in Vista 64-bit environment? Thanks. Digi's support website is less than helpful.

I don't think they are compatible.. I would also stay away from vista with PT until 7 comes out.. and even then who knows how well they will play together. You could upgrade to 8 and use vista.. but I would personally stick with XP.. I don't know how much ram you will want or need, but you don't have to go 64 bit to have enough ram to more than do the job, unless there are other un-related applications that you'll be using the same computer for. Hope this was helpful.. good luck.

That makes sense, depressing as it is. I love my 001, which won't allow me to update past ptle6.4. I wish digi would support the 001 (provide vista drivers) but I have to take the blame for using 10-year old hardware/software.

No 64 bit OSs are currently supported with Pro Tools.

There will be support for Windows 7, though I'm not certain there will be for Vista 64.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a 32bit vista machine, and I'm going to try to get a copy of xp(sp2) so we'll see. I mostly wanted more ram and a faster processor for Reason (among other things) and I got that, so like I said, we'll see. One of these days I'm just going to have to upgrade my hardware, I guess. Dammit.

I just moved from an 001 to my 003
my main goal was to purchase some higher end mics and pre's before changing my recorder

the 003 was worth it. the convertors are cleaner(assuming you track at proper levels) the pre amps are cleaner. alternate monior switching, a built in headphone amp which is nice if you need to move your 003 on site.

pro tools 8 has increase the stability of my recordings as well.

Sounds nice, but I don't see ever buying something this proprietary again.

if you swap files between your home studio and a "pro" studio, it tends to make things easier.

that was my only purpose for going PT
