564, problem with disc eject...

My bro recently gave me his old 564 portastudio he had stored away. unfortunately there was a disc left inside and when i press eject it won't release the disc. any ideas?

btw, any chance of using this just as a mixer into a soundcard on my pc, just to use the mic pres/tracks?

You have to try holding the eject button, while powering up at the same time.
If this doesn't work,..take the unit apart, and do the same thing, while giving the disc stuck inside a little nudge.
This is a known problem with the 564's. The disc drive was poorly built...also, the grease tends to harden after time,..and this is most likely why it is stuck.
I've delt with this problem several times.
You can grease the transport while you have it apart,..and you should be good to go.(you should be able to see where the grease was before)
Though, I highly recommend inserting discs with care. Be very gentle.
Yes,..you can use it as a mixer,..but it is much better as a stand alone unit.
564 is a great "live" recorder. I've recorded many live shows with my 564's,..and they have never let me down. Phenomenal results.
