Well I've got 500 bucks to spend on getting my PC recording off of the ground. I've been doing the research, but I've still got a few questions since I'm in some unfamilliar territory here.......

What I've got: Good PC, Cool edit Pro.(don't know how to use it yet, but I've got it.), Yamaha MT4X 4-Track (mixer/preamps???), 2 SM-57's, and a beta 57.

Things I know I need: A good sound card. (Been looking at the M-Audio stuff (24/96, Delta 44,66, 1010LT, 1010(used on ebay?? 250ish???) - I've heard that the converters on the 24/96 are better than the ones on the 44/66??? I've also heard that the 1010 is much better than the rest??? And whats the skinny on the Audiofile 192 unit?

Pre amp- DMP-3, VTB-1???

Mic- Studio Projects B1, B3, C1 or somthing comparable(to be used for mostly vocals, guitar cabs, and anything else)

I will be mostly recording 1 track at a time, maybe in the future step it up a bit.

So am I on the right track....uhmm disk?? :)

Thanks,
Rick

If your're asking me you MUST be desporate! I'm in pretty much the same boat as your........just an old 4-Track guy looking to break intot the PC world of recording.........there is so much information here and on other sites that it makes my head hurt..

The items I've compiled here are from doing research here and through personal references, but I still need some input before I make any desicsions.

Thanks,
Rick

If you have your software and soundcard, from there, at the very least you will need mic pre's and mic's. You can use the pre's on your 4trk. Most software has built in effects, compression, EQ's...all that good stuff. This is the bare minimum that will get you recording. From there...its just a matter of how much money you want to spend to upgrade or add stuff.
