Hi everyone. I posted a question yesterday about the Studio Projects B1 mic, then realised the info I needed was already on the site. I'm a recording baby, so please bear with me. I have an Edirol UA 20 sound card. I called the store today to order a B1, and he asked me if the card is 48v phantom power.

Frankly my dear, I don't have a clue. I just wanna buy a B1, point it at my acoustic, and play. Then I wanna point the B1 at my mouth, and sing. It doesn't seem too much to ask. Can anyone tell me if my card is suitable for the mic ?

Sorry to ask what is such a basic question, but we all have to start somewhere, right ?
 
I just looked at it on the Edirol website and it doesn't look like it has P power. It does have mic preamps built in but you'll need a seperate phantom power supply if you want to use condensor mics (such as the SP B1) with that interface. They're not too pricey.

Edit: After a quick look I found this, at $40 it's the cheapest I could find.
 
You need phantom power

I don't see anything about phantom power in the specs. Are you going though a mixer or preamp before the Edirol? If not, you'll need some source of power for the B1. It won't work otherwise.

If you're in the UK you'll need to find another phantom power box. I'd be tempted to get a preamp with phantom, and so improve my signal chain at the same time. But that opens up another whole can of worms.

I'm surprised that thing doesn't have phantom though. :confused:
 
Hmmm ... I just looked and that unit DEFINITELY won't have phantom power because it's not very safe to use it on jacks rather than XLR. I have to say that I'd be tempted to pick up an M-Audio DMP-3 for a nice clean recording, switch the sound card input to 'line' and call it a job well done. :)
 
Good call! Second that...consider the cost of a power supply...for a little more, you get a very nice 2 channel mic pre. Totally spazzed out the Euro power source differences.
