440 Remote Plug Wiring??

Ok, so I cleaned up the two AG440's I picked up, and they power up ok, but the transports wount respond to the controls. A quick check shows the dummy plugs are missing from the remote control jacks......apparently they were being used with remotes in the radio station i got them from. No plug = no go.

I have the manual so I can see which numbered terminals to jumper, but the damned jack has no numbers or indication of pin # assignments.
I would rather not guess which pins are which at the risk of frying something.

Its a 12 pin rectangular connector
Does anyone have:
1) the numerical pin assignments of the JACK (female) for a 440C remote
or
2) A vendor source/ manufacturer/part number/etc of this plug so I can buy a pair
or
3) A dummy plug for a 440c (or two) you would like to sell (give) me?

Oops...forgot about the pics. I will get them up soon. I had placed the rollers on a sheet of cardboard on my workbench and had to use a razor blade to cut AROUND them to get them off. Two weeks later and they are still 'tacky'.

Can you access inside so you see where the leads from the plug (or is it jack?) go?
If I am not completely wrong, according to this doc (page 8), you need to locate and identify three pins - 7, 8 and 12. Pin 7 leads to "STOP" button, Pin 12 leads to "Edit" button (or is it a switch?) and Pin 8 is (leads to, connected to) Ground. So you need to connect those pins. (see attached gif)
Again, don't do anything of that nature unless you are 100% sure. I'm just trying to figure it out based on what I see on my screen

I've found THIS THING ... (12-pin jack or plug, P312CCT-P??), I am not sure if this is what you may need or can adapt...

The pin number identification was the problem. I opened up the unit to get the back of the remote jack (which involves pulling the transport out of the cart and some disassembly) and lo and behold the pin numbers are on the BACK of the jack. reassemble and jumper 7,8, and 12 and VOILA....the transport runs like .....well....like it should. No smoke or anything!! Thanks for the diagram and help.
As far as the plug, its still a ????. The graphic for the 12 pin plug in the catalog is actually exactly the same picture as the 10 pin plug....hmmmmm.
The plug TYPE looks right..those flat spades in the rectangular shell. I'm going to try an e-mail to the supplier to see if they have the correct graphic so I can match the pin config.

In your situation I probably would just make up jumpers, maybe using some connectors , something from this "family" #24 or #36 type and maybe reshaping the connectors a bit if does not fit. (Radioshack got those things)
as an alternative thought, If you don't mind little mod on your machine(s), you could add a switch on the back or a separate jack , stereo phone-jack 1/4 looks like can do the work (diagram attached).
(btw, modifications are ok if you are the only user, but it's not a good idea in case where somebody else may use the unit without knowing about mod(s) and if you think of selling the unit someday, then you better keep it original as much as possible)

Keying in on the Jones connector type you identified , I found a catalog on the web showing the exact connector used for the remote (and the power supply and transport connect cables as well). I am going to order up four of the remote connector plugs....two to make into "dummys" and two to use if I even decide to home-build some remotes. I'd prefer to keep these units as stock as possible, aside from maybe trying some of the circuit tweaks I have gleaned from some of the ampex sites. My goal at this point is to get the one machine (which has new-ish half track heads) fully up to snuff (maybe add the quarter track playback head option if I can find one) and then longer term convert the other 440 (with more worn heads) to a 1/2" 4 track.
The more I poke around on the 440's the more I appreciate the build quality...these things are tanks. I can actually work on them without breaking some crappy little plastic connector.
I hope they sound as good as they look...

Sorry to be slow on the reply. You are correct, you jumper pins 7, 8 and 12. I have the original part 4050444-01 that came with my AG-440 and that is the correct wiring.
