424 mk3 stereo drum tracks

Can anyone help me out on recording a good sounding 2 track stereo drum mix? Tips, tricks, secrets or advice would be great. I play many instruments fairly well and am trying to get the most out of my 424. Thanks guys

I would say keep it simple. a pair of overheads and maybe throw a mic on the kick if you have the routing capabilities on the mixer.
 
a mixer is the key. I had great results on my 414 with stero drums. but i used six mics through a pretty good mixer...
get someone to play the drums while YOU record them... move the mics, tweek the faders, and listen back to it over and over again. Its going to take a while to get everything dialed in just right, so be patient. it really sucks to do this alone- get help. good luck!
 
by the way, you can ignore what I just said and use 2 mics straight into the four track. I've had good results puting one mic about two or three feet in front of the set, about 3 feet up, pointing down a bit towards the top of the kick. The other mic I put up high above the drummers head pointing straight down at the snare or between the toms. pan them slightly for an inaccurate, but effective stereo image.

you might want to try to post this in "recording techniques" as well. maybe you would get more response in there...

The mixer on the 424 should have enough capability to set up more than two mics on two channels. I used to set up four mics and record to two channels with 424 mkIII. are your recording just drums by themselves? If not, you can even use the stereo channels for additional inputs, however you would need an external preamp since those inputs are for a line level signal...
