does anyone know if these sound different from the normal 421Us? or are they more expensive 'cause of the name/collectibility?

To the best of my knowledge, Telefunken never imported Sennheiser 421s, so I''m not sure of the mic you saw with a Telefunken badge.

This year at NAMM, Telefunken US (new company making reproductions of the vintage stuff) was giving away tie pins in the form of Telefunken logos. These could easily be modified to glue onto any mic you want. That could be what you saw. Karl Winkler at Neumann USA could probably tell you more if they really are Telefunken badged 421s.

Telefunken USA has virtually nothing to do with the original Telefunken company from Germany. They just bought the name and the right to duplicate the famous ELAM mics, nothing else. The German Telefunken company went out of business 1984, which is not too long ago. These 421's with the Telefuken Logo came from the same Sennheiser factory as the ones with the Sennheiser Logo. No difference as far as I know, other than that they had Telefunken quality control (which might not even be a good thing, coz Telefunken was not known for their quality products. Just go to the German Ebay site www.ebay.de, where you find tons of very crappy Telefunken stuff for the consumer market).

I stand corrected. Apparently, Telefunken did sell a rebadged Sennheiser 421 under their name. I never saw any over here in the U.S., but they obviously must have sold a lot of them in Europe.

I see em on ebay from time to time, and they always want more for them. I think I remember this being discussed before, but I forgot if they were different. Thanks.
