I just got a 4033 and an NT3 to record my acoustic guitars. I have one bright sounding Taylor twelve string. and One more mellow Martin OM. Any suggestions on how I should set my mics up to record? I have experimented a little, but I was wondering if you experts could give me good pointers.
Thanks,
Daniel

I take one mic at a time. Find the place where the first mic sounds best. Then do the same procedure with the second mic. Now record in stereo. Usually I'll have one 6"-12" from the 9th or 12th fret and one 6"-12" away from the bridge. Sometimes I'll have the mics straight out from the guit and sometimes I'll have them pointing down from above. These are just general guidelines, of course.

One more thing to add to tdukex's advice. If there's the slightest chance in hell, this might get some radio play, pan the mics hard left and right, then slowly move the right pan knob over till it's hard left as well, listening for cancellations, droputs, or phasing problems.

Remember that car radios will switch from stereo to mono when the signal gets too low. That guitar part you love may sound glorious in stereo, but it may disappear when switched to mono.

Another piece of great advice from Harvey. I recently stereo recorded a fingerstyle piece I'm going to check out the phasing using that panning technique.
