Hello,

Ok...I' m ready to purchase. What is the best passive studio reference monitor I can get for $400?

Thanks,

Rusty K

Probably the Tannoy Reveals which are around 369, at fullcompass. You have to call in. 1-800-356-5844, ask for brian bookstaff, ext 1157, or heather paske. I don't know her extension. It'll end up being 400 exactly with shipping, and theres no tax!

Rusty.... you really have to listen to a few of them in your price range and let your ears decide....

Tannoys, Dynaudio, Events, and even Yorkvilles may work for you... you NEED to find something YOU like!

You hear with your ears, not people's opinions! ;)

.......My humble opinion isnt worth much, but here you are:
When I bought mine I demoed Event 20/20's, Tannoy Reveals, JBL LSR25P's, and Fostex PM-1's. All of these fall into the "under 4 bills" category. My findings were as follows....... The events were nice...but kinda sounded like good stereo speakers (glossy, and maybe not as 'honest' as you might want a reference monitor to be. The JBL's were not in the same class, and lacked a good bass response. The Tannoys and the PM-1's were my choice of the lot, and reputation pushed me towards the Reveals. These really are things you have to do for yourself though. Everyone looks for something a little different.......good luck. Mike:D

Guernica, I totally agree on your Event 20/20 assessment. I ended up with the Studiophiles SP-5B from M-Audio (not on your list). The Tannoys would have been my next choice.

Hey Guys,

I started this thread and then my puter went on the blink so I've been unable to respond.

Thanks for all the input. Looks like Tannoy is high on the list. I'm not familiar with some of the other brands mentioned like the M-Audio.

Are the Tannoy's worth $200 bucks more than say the Yorkville's that are around $200 (?)?

Thanks again,

Rusty K
