This may be a goofy question, but isn't that what a newbies forum for?

I want to be able to play along with the stuff I've recorded on my four track without having to wear my headphones while doing so. Can I just plug my 4-track directly into my amp? I've got one of those little stereo cords that combines into one plug, so I could just plug the monitor outputs straight into one of my amp inputs, but I'm afraid of melting the amp or the 4-track, or both. Is this simply an impedence issue? Do the impedences need to be exaclty the same, or do they simply need to be close? Please help!

Go right ahead...your 4-track monitor and main outputs are line outs, so you can plug them into any line in on an amplifier. Of course, if you mean a guitar amp, that's different! Some guitar amps have line inputs (sometimes on the back, or sometimes as an "effects in" on the front) but if you plug into a guitar input, it's not an impedance problem, it's just too much signal for the input. Probably won't actually burn anything out, but if you have the output too hot on the 4-track, you might blow an eardrum or a speaker...
