I recently got my yamaha MT120 4 track recorder back, and am anxious to record some songs and make them sound semi-professional (as professional as I can get with my means). As far as recording from this thing I kindof have a shoot for the stars type of attitude. But I have a few questions.

First off I was wondering if there is website telling exactly how certain albums have been made, mainly sixties bands but others would help.

Second I really don't know what the difference of a preamp and regular amp is. I've read that you usually have to run a Mic through a preamp to get good sound, maybe also compression and reverb. Could I just run it through my Peavey Bandit 65(for guitar) or my FenderM-80 Pro (also guitar), or even my Korg G3 effects pedal to get a good sound? I definately want more bass in my voice. I know there are several ways of doing this but what way could I record voice the best.

Also I want to achieve a U2 Joshua tree type noise sound for a backup, should I just keep recording and mixing different variations of the same thing? or is there some other way?

Does anyone know of some of the ways Floyd got thier sound?

I've read alot of advice on the internet but I really haven't seen to many professional techniques that have been used with many of my favorite bands. I know I'm not going to achieve exactle what I'm looking for but I want to get as close as I can to doing so.

Looks like a great resource

Thanks for the tip on where to find more tips!
